For more than ten years, Girona was a provincial capital without a half marathon of its own. That ends on Sunday 28 February 2027, when the Mitja Marató Ciutat de Girona returns for its 23rd edition, starting at 8:30 at the Pavelló Municipal Girona-Fontajau. The race began in 1995, ran 22 editions and stopped in 2016. The revival is organised by the Ajuntament de Girona with Club Triatló Nan Oliveras and Club Triatló Girona Costa Brava, together with the councils of Salt and Sarrià de Ter.
A fast urban course across three towns
The course is described as urban, fast and with minimal elevation, with about 61 m of climbing over 21.097 km. It takes in seven Girona neighbourhoods and then crosses into Salt and Sarrià de Ter, so you run through three municipalities and finish where you started, at Fontajau. The organisers also provide pacers, entertainment on the course, official timing and medical cover.
Entry
Entries opened at 18:00 on 1 September 2026 and the first 3,000 went in two hours. Within a day, 4,000 of the 5,000 places were gone.
