Málaga Half Marathon 2027
Official name: TotalEnergies Media Maratón Ciudad de Málaga
· 08:15
- Sunday 7 March 2027, waves from 8:15
- Course record: 58:27 (Gilbert Kipkosgei, 2025)
- Almost all of it along the sea
- 14,000 places, expo at the Martín Carpena
In 2025 Málaga moved its start and finish back to Paseo del Parque with a new course, and the times came quickly. That year Gilbert Kipkosgei ran 58:27, still the course record. In 2026 Vincent Kipkorir won in 59:30 on his half marathon debut. Behind the winners, Klara Lukan set a Slovenian national record of 1:06:43, and Olympian Marta Galimany, aged 40, was the first Spanish woman home in a personal best of 1:09:22.
The field is growing too. In 2026 about 12,000 runners took part, a record, with 49% from abroad, more than 90 nationalities and 37% women. For 2027, on Sunday 7 March, the cap rises to 14,000.
The course: west first, then the port and the promenade
The route runs almost entirely beside the sea. It heads west from Paseo del Parque, nearly as far as the Martín Carpena arena, loops through the streets around La Térmica, then comes back east along Calle Pacífico and the Paseo Marítimo Antonio Machado. It then goes into the port as far as cruise terminal 2, past La Farola lighthouse, out past La Malagueta beach towards El Limonar, and back to the finish.
There’s barely any climbing: a few bridges, a short, sharp rise around km 12 as you head for La Malagueta and the port, and a gentle drag at Plaza de la Malagueta before the last downhill to Paseo del Parque. The main challenge is wind. The route has long out-and-back stretches, especially along the Paseo Marítimo Pablo Ruiz Picasso, so if it’s blowing you’ll have it in your face in one direction. Stay in a group on the way out.
Waves
Waves start by target time:

The first cut-off, 40 minutes at km 5, works out at 8:00/km. The later checkpoints ask for the same pace, so runners who walk sections should keep that number in mind from the start.
