Few half marathons in Spain start at 8 p.m. The Gran Canaria Media Maratón Memorial Alcalde Camilo Sánchez does, on Saturday 21 November 2026, for its 18th edition. It is held in Vecindario, in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana in the south-east of the island, and the half marathon and 10K both set off at 20:00.
A night race around Vecindario
Start and finish are on Avenida de Las Tirajanas, by the municipal offices opposite the Sports Pavilion. The half marathon is two laps of 10.5 km, certified by the Spanish athletics federation, and the 10K uses most of the same loop with a turn point. Corrals are assigned by your predicted time.
Because it is a lapped course in the dark, the cut-offs are strict: the first lap must be done in 1 h 15, and the full race within 2 h 45. There is an aid station every 5 km. Runners need to be 18 on race day for the half; the 10K is open to those born in 2009 or earlier.
The weekend
The organisers build a whole weekend around the race: a 5K roller-skating race, a children’s race, roller kids and a 3K “Steps for Life” walk, plus the 10K (the Bolaños category) and the 5K (Taro). In 2025 the press put the field at around 1,220 runners, so it stays a friendly, local race.
